Tay Cher Siang | Jazz Pianistย
Tay Cher Siang is a leading Malaysian jazz pianist, composer, and educator. Classically trained, he discovered jazz in his teens and later earned a Masterโs in Jazz Pedagogy in the U.S. He has taught at top Malaysian institutions and conducted masterclasses across Asia.
As the founder of WVC โ Malaysian Jazz Ensemble and a member of Unit Asia, Tay has performed in over 15 countries, including the USA, Japan, China, and India. He has released 10 albums of original music and produced over 30 for regional artists.
A three-time Kaki Seni-Cameronian Arts Award winner, Tay also received Best Original Composition in 2020 for Shakespeare and Jazz. He has worked extensively as a music director, arranger, and composer for film, theatre, and musicalsโand appeared with his band in Crazy Rich Asians.
Adriel | Drummerย
Adriel is a Kuala Lumpurโbased drummer and music graduate from Universiti Sains Malaysia (2018). Starting with lessons from his mother, his early years were filled with church performances, school competitions, and festivals. A former member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, he is trained in both classical and contemporary orchestral music.Now an active figure in the jazz scene, Adriel performs with WVC Jazz Ensemble, Kangkung Belacan, The Frozen Mugs, and The Shang Sisters. He has collaborated with prominent local and international artists including Tay Cher Siang, Michael Veerapan, Yuna, Janet Lee, Gabrielle Stravelli, Patrick OโLeary, Yuki Arimasa, and AJ of Pop Shuvit.
AJ | Bassist
AJ is the bassist for Pop Shuvit, Malaysiaโs trailblazing rap rock band known for their explosive live shows and signature fusion of hip hop and rock. Since breaking into the scene in 2001, Pop Shuvit has released five successful albums and built a loyal following across Asia, particularly in Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, and Singapore. As a core member, AJ played a key role in shaping the bandโs dynamic sound and regional impact. He was also part of Project E.A.R. (East Asian Revolution), a Southeast Asian supergroup formed by Pop Shuvit, which delivered a standout performance at the 2008 MTV Asia Awards alongside acts from Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore.
