Zhang Chi earned his Master of Music in Piano Performance from Monash University, Melbourne, studying under renowned pianist Darryl Coote. During his time there, he regularly performed in the Team of Pianists concert series, appeared live on 3MBS radio, and took part in the Music in the Round series.
He received guidance from internationally acclaimed pianists, including Max Cooke (Australia), Ye Hui Fang (China), Roy Howat (Scotland), Andrea Bonatta (Italy), Rolf Plagge (Austria), Kurt Bauer (Germany), and Victor Khor (Singapore).
Zhang Chi has toured extensively, performing across Europe and Asia — including France (Paris), Austria (Salzburg, Vienna), Germany (Freiburg), Italy (Bolzano), China (Shenzhen, Gaoming, Hong Kong, Nanjing), Thailand (Bangkok), Singapore, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Penang), and Australia (Melbourne). He also gave masterclasses in Taizhou, China.
In 2019, he was invited to New York to record on the prestigious Steinway Spirio piano. In 2020, he was officially named a Steinway Artist.
Now based in Penang, Malaysia, Zhang Chi works actively as a pianist, accompanist, and educator. He collaborates with international musicians, Malaysian artists, and orchestras. His students have won numerous national and international prizes, and he holds the title of Steinway Honorary Teacher in recognition of his contributions to music and education.
