Louis Ong | Baritone

Baritone Louis Ong completed his Specialist in Music in Vocal Performance at the University of Michigan in 2020, after earning both his Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from Louisiana State University.

While in the United States, he received an Encouragement Award at the Michigan District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (2018) and won First Prize in the undergraduate division of the 6th Bangkok Opera ASEAN International Singing Competition.

An active performer, Louis has sung over ten operatic roles, including Schaunard in Puccini’s La Bohème, the title roles in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Le Nozze di Figaro, Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff, the title role in Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis, and Harašta in Janáček’s Příhody lišky Bystroušky. In 2019, he was invited by Utah Opera to create the role of Ah Chun in the world premiere of Tony Solitro’s Burial.

On the concert stage, he has appeared as a soloist in Schubert’s Mass in G Major with JBCC (2025), the Puccini Centennial Celebration Concert at UiTM Shah Alam, Classical Composers’ Chronoporter at the Permaisuri Zarith Sofia Opera House (2024), and The Piano Solution Teacher–Student Recital at Singapore’s Esplanade Theatre (2023). He also regularly performs in chamber concerts with Music Makers at the Blue Mansion in Penang.

Dr. Bernard Tan | Pianist

Dr. Bernard Tan is a pianist, conductor, and music educator who holds Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in collaborative piano from University of Michigan, USA, being the only Malaysian to have completed this program under the tutelage of the world-renowned Martin Katz. He previously resided in Birmingham, United Kingdom, where he graduated with Master of Music with Distinction from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Being a versatile pianist, Bernard has won numerous prizes, awards, and fellowships for his works as a pianist in art songs, operas, and chamber music. He is a vocal coach in Veneto Opera Summer School in Italy, and has served as opera coach in productions internationally. Recently, Bernard was appointed the conductor for Kuala Lumpur City Opera’s opera production of La Bohème.
While busy engaging with concerts, masterclasses, workshops, and piano studio teaching, Bernard Tan also serves as a senior lecturer at the Conservatory of Music at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia.
