Joined by pianist Zhang Chi and Clarinetist Kenny Lim will be performing both of Brahms’ celebrated Clarinet Sonatas, Op. 120 Nos. 1 & 2, alongside a selection of his beautiful Intermezzi for solo piano. Kenny Lim Yong Jia | Clarinetist

Kenny holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Middlesex University London and a Master of Music Performance from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD). At Middlesex, he studied with renowned British clarinetist Janet Hilton, while at RWCMD he trained under Robert Plane (Principal Clarinet), John Cooper (2nd and Eb Clarinet), Timothy Lines, and Alison Lambert (Bass Clarinet). He also received tutelage from Gonzalo Esteban, Jose Garcia Taborda, Giovanni Punzi, Lawrence Fong, Dr. Yos Vaneesorn, and participated in masterclasses with Michael Collins and Yehuda Gilad. As the recipient of the 2015 Malaysian ABRSM Winds Prize, Kenny attended the Silpakorn Summer Music School in Thailand, performed three solo recitals, and conducted masterclasses across Malaysia. He has performed with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, KLpac Orchestra, Philharmonic Winds of Malaysia, KLCO Orchestra, Tutan Festival Orchestra, RWCMD Symphony, and RWCMD Winds Ensemble. A dedicated chamber musician, he has organised chamber music projects since 2019. Kenny is currently a music lecturer at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) and is pursuing a PhD in Music Performance Studies at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris under the supervision of Dr. Tham Horng Kent, researching the technical playing of Baermann–Ottensteiner system clarinets. He is also a member of Dr. Yap Kar Hui’s research team, contributing to studies in reminiscence music therapy.

Zhang Chi | Pianist

Mr. Zhang holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Monash University, Australia. During his studies abroad, he was highly active on numerous prominent musical stages, performing at the “Music Without Borders” Arts Festival and making multiple appearances on the 3MBS Fine Music radio station. In his early years, he undertook an intensive musical study tour across Europe, visiting prestigious music institutions in Paris, Salzburg, Freiburg, and Bolzano.

Following his graduation, Mr. Zhang launched an international performing career, holding solo recitals and masterclasses in major cultural hubs across China, Southeast Asia, and Australia. His artistic footprint has even extended to Suzdal, a historic city in Russia. In 2019, he was invited to Steinway & Sons in New York to record on the Spirio | r high-resolution player piano. He was officially named a Steinway Artist in 2020 and became a Steinway Educational Partner in 2024.

In recent years, Mr. Zhang has been frequently invited to serve as a juror for international competitions and as a guest artist at various music festivals. His repertoire spans three centuries of keyboard literature, ranging from Baroque classics to 21st-century contemporary works, with a particular mastery of highly demanding piano literature.

Currently based in George Town, Penang, Malaysia, Mr. Zhang maintains an active performance schedule and collaborates closely with internationally renowned musicians and orchestras. His pedagogical achievements are particularly notable, with his students frequently winning top honors at major national and international competitions.
